Meet Darcy

Hi! My name is Darcy. I am usually the “face” of CCS! I also do some video editing, social media posts, lives, and answer many of the questions submitted to us. I am a local representative with Land Hermit Crab Owners Society, a local foster-to-adopt hub, and a regional facilitator for Hermit House Breeding (the captive breeding program started by Mary Akers). My favorite things to do are: Hermit Crab Care and Outreach, Home Decorating, Painting, Shopping, and most anything that has to do with art, creativity, and creating things! I have been teaching for fifteen years and currently teach 6th grade. I’m a proud mother of four beautiful and talented daughters. Crab Central Station has been an amazing family experience. I hope that our channel helps you on your hermit crab care journey. Thank you so much for joining us!

Meet Brooke

Hi, I’m Brooke. I am 19 years old and mainly work on the technology side of CCS. I help film, edit, and produce content and I also am active on our social media accounts! I am extremely passionate about caring for animals and a big advocate against the brutal Hermit Crab industry. I am a Land Hermit Crab Owners Society Local Representative which allows me to work to bring awareness to these animals.

Meet Faith

Hey homies! My name is Faith. I am 20 and I am a freshman in college studying to be a theatre teacher, with the goal of eventually being the commissioner of education for the State of Texas. I can be seen in several of the CCS YouTube videos with Darcy, my mom. I also help to film and edit the videos ! During my high school years I was passionate about film and am so excited that I now get to continue my film making career through this channel. Aside from film making, my other hobbies include: acting, directing, working out, hanging out with my friends and playing board games!

Our First Hermit Crabs

Our First Hermit Crabs

Our Journey started with a family beach trip to Port Aransas, Texas. Brooke asked if she could purchase a couple hermit crabs with her own money. After speaking with the store staff, and hearing how easy they are to care for, she purchased three hermit crabs. Darcy and Faith soon fell in love with them and returned the following day to purchase hermit crabs of their own.

Research for Proper Care Begins

Research for Proper Care Begins

Leary of the simplicity in the care instructions we were given, we began to do some additional research for ourselves. Our internet searches led us to some better care options, but we still had a lot of unanswered questions.

Journey to Land 1

Journey to Land 1

First breeding attempt. Gunther and Monica mate, live, during our CrabCon 2020 presentation. About a month later Gunther spawned her eggs in the salt water pool, giving us our first opportunity to raise captive bred hermit crabs.

Journey to Land 2

Journey to Land 2

Second breeding attempt. Monica and Gunther mated again, actually immediately following the first spawn. We thought Monica was assisting in the spawn, but he was actually wanting to mate again. This gave us a second chance at bringing babies to land.
